Third Stage Bleach Tower

This project was completed for Cascade Pacific Pulp and involved budget preparation, detailed process design, detailed engineering, and contract document development. The new tower was constructed beside the existing up-flow tube to allow a quick and easy tie-in and keep down time to a minimum. The new system will have a retention time of 5 hours, vs just 2 hours with the old tower, when operated at the mill’s normal production rate.

To control costs, much of the existing piping, valves, instrumentation, and electrical services, are re-used in the new process. Two existing pumps are also modified and/or relocated to suit the new arrangement.

The goals of the project are to replace a small, badly corroded tower, reduce bleaching chemical usage, save energy, and improve pulp quality.
